The goal of The IQ® Brew is to share lessons learned and to have the Richardson business community hear about the successes and challenges faced while starting and growing a business. Come join us for coffee and conversation every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month!\n\n\n\nOn Thursday, October 28, The IQ® Brew will continue the 5 series feature of the UT Dallas research teams that will have a footprint in the new IQ® Headquarters. These new centers, which are part of the UT Dallas Center for Emergent Novel Technology, were awarded seed grant funding from the UT Dallas Office of Innovation & Research and will anchor a public presence in the Richardson Innovation Quarter.\n\n\n\nOur second IQ® Brew UT Dallas Series will feature Dr. Rym Wenkstern, Associate Professor at the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science and PI for The Center fOr Smart MObility (COSMO). COSMO aims to provide advanced solutions for the engineering of smart, multi-modal cyber transportation infrastructures and technologies to improve safety and enhance mobility for all urban road users (i.e., vehicle drivers, Connected and Automated Vehicles, transit vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists, etc.). In addition, the Center will be committed to pursuing community engagement, strengthening industry collaboration, accelerating the research transition into the real world, and advancing education and outreach efforts.\n\n\n\nIn this presentation, Dr. Wenkstern will discuss the Center’s areas of expertise and present DALI, a smart, collaborative traffic control system developed at the MAVS lab at UTD and successfully deployed in the City of Richardson. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Ottawa, Canada, and the Doctorat de Specialite (Ph.D.) in Computer Science from the University of Tunis, Tunisia. Dr. Wenkstern is the Director of the Multi-Agent and Visualization Systems lab. Her research focuses on all aspects of engineering large, complex, real-world systems using the agent paradigm, with an emphasis on Smart Cities challenges. She has served on several international conferences organizing committees and numerous program committees.\n\n\n\nDr. Wenkstern’s research on Intelligent Transportation Systems received a Smart 50 Award, which annually recognizes the most innovative and influential global smart projects and was a finalist at the Tech Titan Awards, which recognizes the elite in North Texas technology. Her work on agent-based simulation systems received twice the AAMAS Best Demo/System Award, Best Paper Award at Agent-Directed Simulations, and Overall Best Paper Award at Spring Simulation Conference. Her work on the deployment of a smart, autonomous and collaborative traffic control system received media attention with a news segment on CBS 11 News and several press articles.\n
