With its 500-acre campus primarily located in the City of Richardson, The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) is a rising research powerhouse with nearly 30,000 students, eight schools and more than 140 academic degrees including top-ranked programs in business, engineering, science, audiology, and arts and technology.

UTD is home to the Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (IEE) to help students succeed in entrepreneurship. The IEE program offers innovative spaces like the Venture Development Center and the Blackstone LaunchPad. The Princeton Review ranked UTD as the 13th ranked undergraduate program in the nation for entrepreneurship studies with 1,500-plus students enrolled in the classes and more than 300 startups have been launched in the last five years by UTD grads. UTD’s graduate program was also ranked 15th  in the nation for entrepreneurship studies.

The UTD research portfolio is evolving and continued growth in life sciences creates potential for industry development. Research funding more than doubled in the decade between 2007 and 2016, and there have been important portfolio changes at the University during that time.

A new Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) project to construct the Silver Line will add a new station at the University and connect to the Richardson IQ® via light rail transit.

In 2021, The University of Texas at Dallas and the City of Richardson announced a partnership to develop a collaborative innovation space in the Richardson IQ®at 1302 E. Collins Boulevard. The Center will open in 2022 and will be home to Richardson’s Office of Strategic Initiatives, an extension of the UT Dallas Venture Development Center, and five new research centers within the new Center for Emergent Novel Technology at the Innovation Quarter (CENT-IQ). The institution’s faculty includes many distinguished members, including six who have been awarded Nobel Prizes since 1985. The faculty of more than 2,700 is responsible for groundbreaking medical advances and is committed to translating science-driven research quickly to new clinical treatments. UT Southwestern physicians provide medical care in about 80 specialties to more than 105,000 hospitalized patients, nearly 370,000 emergency room cases, and oversee approximately 3 million outpatient visits a year. UT Southwestern is a top 10 program in biomedical nanotech funding and ranked 33rd in total National Institutes of Health (NIH) prime awards. The UT Southwestern Campus is connected to the Richardson IQ® via light rail transit.

The Richardson IQ® is located entirely within the Richardson ISD boundaries, and RISD comprised of 54 campuses that serve more than 38,700 students. RISD’ Berkner High School, located approximately two miles from The IQ®  is home to the District’s T-STEM Academy.  Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Academies are rigorous secondary schools focusing on improving instruction and academic performance in science and mathematics-related subjects and increasing the number of students who study and enter STEM careers. Berkner has developed six pathways based on Richardson’s workforce demands which include Aviation & Aeronautical Science, Biotechnology & Health Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering & Robotics, Global Arts & Communication, and STEM Management.
