The IQ®

Target Industries

Aerospace & Defense—The Richardson aerospace and defense cluster involves many technologies, but the end users are often the same.  The IQ® is already home to several aerospace and defense companies including Optex, Raytheon, Teledyne e2v, G-Systems and Polatomic.
Financial Services—Richardson has been a popular location for insurance, banking and other financial services companies since the 1980s, and its excellent public safety, easily accessible location and lower-cost environment continue to appeal to these companies.  Travelers Insurance, one of Richardson’s largest employers, is located in The IQ®.
Gaming & Media—The gaming industry in Texas is growing faster than the national average, and North Texas has seen dramatic growth in video game studios and gaming software development jobs in the last few years. The IQ® is home to several gaming and media companies including idSoftware, producer of Doom, Quake and Rage, and PeopleFun, one of the world’s top developers of casual mobile games like Wordscapes.
Headquarters—Company headquarters locations rely on access to a large and diverse base of talented business professionals, and multiple studies have shown that access to a highly educated labor force within a 30-minute commute of Richardson is unsurpassed in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Several regional and US headquarters already call The IQ® home, including Zyvex, Halff Associates, and Vent-A-Hood.
Mobility Innovation — See “Emerging Industries” page.
Life Science/BioTech — See “Emerging Industries” page.
Research & Development—Richardson’s history in R&D dates back to the development of the integrated circuit at Texas Instruments in 1958.  Since then, other inventions arising from the R&D in Richardson have been primarily in the semiconductor and telecom sectors.  Local companies with significant operations in The IQ® include Dell EMC and Honeywell.
Semiconductors—Since the Texas Instruments headquarters was established in the 1950s, semiconductor manufacturing talent has migrated to Richardson with several companies located in The IQ® including Honeywell and VLSIP Technologies, Inc.
Software—Richardson’s current software cluster stems largely from its rich telecom history.  Some significant software employers already established in The IQ® include InfoVision, Mavenir and Argo Data.
