The IQ Brew: Dr. Marjorie A. Zielke, The Future of Virtual Reality and Holograms

IN-PERSON & VIRTUAL EVENT
The IQ Brew is a networking and educational series featuring short presentations from entrepreneurs, small businesses and subject-matter experts. The goal of The IQ® Brew is to share lessons learned and to have the Richardson business community hear about the successes and challenges faced while starting and growing a business. Come join us for coffee and conversation every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month!

On Thursday, September 8, The IQ® Brew will feature Dr. Marjorie A. Zielke, Director of the Center for Simulation and Synthetic Humans and Research Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas. Working primarily in emerging forms of simulation focused on virtual humans and learning portals, she is the UT Dallas principal investigator on several innovative simulation research projects in the medical, education and military/law enforcement sectors. Under Dr. Zielke’s direction, the Center has formed numerous research partnerships with support from the National Institutes of Health, Southwestern Medical Foundation, the Texas Department of Transportation and the National Science Foundation. Dr. Zielke’s team was the winner of the Tech Titans 5G Grand Challenge in 2020. Zielke’s proposed creation, the Emergent Virtual Teacher Platform (EVTP), uses sensor capture, Internet of Things (IoT) technology, and speed aspects of 5G to deliver virtual teachers in virtual reality (VR) and holograms.

The Center’s projects have won numerous other awards including first place for faculty twice at the International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH), the U.S. Army’s Modeling and Simulation Training Team Award, the government category in the I/ITSEC Serious Games Competition, and the National Training and Simulation Association (NTSA) Cross-Functional Simulation Award. Dr. Zielke’s simulation for impaired drivers won the NTSA award for Education and Human Performance in 2018. Dr. Zielke served as a United States Special Operations Command Fellow at SOFWERX, J5 Donovan Group, futures studies directorate in 2018. She is a member of the National Training and Simulation (NTSA) Leadership Summit Committee.
